The Gospel of Eve in Epiphanius

The Euangelion Euas is named in Epiphanius Panarion 26.2.

I stood on a high mountain and saw a tall man, and another, who was short, and heard something like the sound of thunder and drew near to listen. Then he spoke to me and said: I am you (sg) and you (sg) are art I, and wherever you are, there am I, and I am sown in all things [or people]; and from wherever you want, you gather me, but when you gather me, you are gathering yourself. [Epiphanius, Panarion, 26.3.1]

They say the same soul is scattered about in animals, beasts, fish, snakes, people, trees, and products of nature. [Epiphanius, Panarion, 26.9.1; not definitely from the Gospel of Eve]

Simon Gathercole's new book includes a translation of the ancient Egyptian text of the Gospel of Judas and a running commentary, and offers new translations of all the ancient evidence about Judas Iscariot and the Gospel attributed to him... more

The Four Gospels and the One Gospel of Jesus Christ

by Martin Hengel

How could the word, 'gospel', be used both by Paul for a proclamation which seems to include no narrative about the earthly Jesus, and by the author of the Gospel according to Mark and his successors, as a title works, which adopt an essentially narrative form? Why did the church, in forming its canon of scripture, choose to include four different and sometimes contradictory accounts of the life of Jesus, when others, like Tatian and Marcion, opted for a harmony, for one account? more
